Inside the walled city

Use Famagusta Gate as the architectural start, continue to Saint John’s Cathedral and end at the Leventis Municipal Museum for the city’s history.

Format: City walk

Why follow this sequence

Use Famagusta Gate as the architectural start, continue to Saint John’s Cathedral and end at the Leventis Municipal Museum for the city’s history.

Stops and choices

  1. Famagusta Gate

Use the gate to read the relationship between the old city and its fortifications. Build the outdoor visit around the structure; an exhibition or interior visit needs an actual programme, not an assumption that the gate is always open.

  2. St Johns Cathedral

Choose the cathedral for its painted interior rather than its exterior scale. Keep the visit separate from nearby museum admissions, and give religious services priority.

  3. Leventis Municipal Museum

Use this as the interpretive anchor for an old-Nicosia walk. Visit before exploring Ledra and Laiki Geitonia so that street names and urban changes have a context.

Practical decisions

Church access and museum entry are separate decisions. This itinerary does not require crossing the Green Line.
